Inspired by the most recent psychological research by Jonge-Hoekstra, this paper aims to distinguish hand movement with two quantitative metrics extracted by the mid-layer of a supervised convolutional gesture recognition network, named diversity and complexity. Particularly, diversity indicates adaptability and complexity indicates flexibility. The utilisation of both metrics shows great potential for hand movement analysis with a particular emphasis on ASD intervention.

The existing fiber Bragg grating (FBG) wavelength demodulation system based on Mach-Zehnder interferometer and phase sensitive optical time domain reflectometer(φ-OTDR) is limited by the system structure and working principle. It can obtain large demodulation capacity through time division multiplexing (TWD), but it can only measure the relative change of wavelength. In this paper, we design and experimentally verify a scheme for measuring the absolute wavelength of FBGs. This scheme can obtain the absolute wavelength of a large-capacity FBG sensor array without affecting the performance of the original technical indexes, and also theoretically improve the accuracy of the system. Its dynamic real-time absolute wavelength demodulation error less than 0.1pm.

sEMG is an efficient media for human-computer interactions, especially in the controlling of artificial limbs and other mechanical arms. In the paper, we propose a new Attention-ConvGRU model which can continuously estimate the finger joint angles based on sEMG when executing classical grasping motions. The experimental results show that the average correlation coefficient (CC) and the root mean square error (RMSE) of the proposed Attention-ConvGRU method are 0.8320 ± 0.04 and 8.8717 ± 0.98, respectively, which are significantly better than that of the GRU method (0.8093 ± 0.05, p < 0.01, 9.3716 ± 0.95, p < 0.01). Moreover, the training speed of Attention-ConvGRU is 4.5 times faster than that of GRU method.

With the theme “Smart Robotics for Society”, the 15th International Conference onIntelligent Robotics and Applications (ICIRA 2022) was held in Harbin, China, August1–3, 2022, and designed to encourage advancement in the field of robotics, automation,mechatronics, and applications. It aims to promote top-level research and globalizethe quality research in general, making discussions, presentations more internationallycompetitive and focusing on the latest outstanding achievements, future trends, anddemands.ICIRA 2022 was organized by Harbin Institute of Technology, co-organized byHuazhong University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University,and Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, undertakenby State Key Laboratory of Robotics and Systems, State Key Laboratory of DigitalManufacturing Equipment and Technology, State Key Laboratory of MechanicalSystems and Vibration, and State Key Laboratory of Robotics. Also, ICIRA 2022was technically co-sponsored by Springer. On this occasion, ICIRA 2022 was asuccessful event this year in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic. It attracted more than440 submissions, and the Program Committee undertook a rigorous review process forselecting the most deserving research for publication. The advisory Committee gaveadvice for the conference program. Also, they help to organize special sections forICIRA 2022. Finally, a total of 284 papers were selected for publication in 4 volumes ofSpringer’s Lecture Note in Artificial Intelligence. For the review process, single-blindpeer review was used. Each review took around 2–3 weeks, and each submission receivedat least 2 reviews and 1 meta-review.
