房間裡的小奇蹟 Fang jian li de xiao qi ji Geleisi Maikelin zhu; Yan Xiangru yi = The land of decoration / Grace McCleen 寂寞出版股份有限公司 Ji mo chu ban gu fen you xian gong si, Soul -- 13, Soul -- 13., Chu ban, Taibei Shi, China (Republic : 1949- ), 2012
難道她的一雙小手, 竟能創造奇蹟? lgli/Norman Ridley - The Role of Intelligence in the Battle of Britain (2021, Pen and Sword).epub
The Role of Intelligence in the Battle of Britain Norman Ridley Pen and Sword, 1, 2021
The Battle of Britain was fought between two airborne military elites and was a classic example of pure attack against pure defence. Though it was essentially a ‘war of attrition’, it was an engagement in which the gathering, assessment and reaction to intelligence played a significant role on both sides. In some respects, both the RAF and the Luftwaffe were hamstrung in their endeavours during the Battle of Britain by poor intelligence. The most egregious Luftwaffe blunder was its failure to appreciate the true nature of Fighter Command’s operational systems and consequently it made fundamental strategic errors when evaluating its plans to degrade them. This was compounded by the Luftwaffe’s Intelligence chief, Major Josef ‘Beppo’ Schmid, whose consistent underestimation of Fighter Command’s capabilities had a huge negative impact upon Reichsmarschall Göring’s decision-making at all stages of the conflict. Both the Luftwaffe and the RAF lacked detailed information about each other’s war production capacity. While the Luftwaffe did have the benefit of pre-war aerial surveillance data it had been unable to update it significantly since the declaration of war in September 1939. Fighter Command did have an distinct advantage through its radar surveillance systems, but this was, in the early stages of the conflict at least, less than totally reliable and it was often difficult to interpret the data coming through due to the inexperience of many of its operators. Another promising source of intelligence was the interception of Luftwaffe communications. It is clear that the Luftwaffe was unable to use intelligence as a ‘force multiplier’, by concentrating resources effectively, and actually fell into a negative spiral where poor intelligence acted as a ‘force diluter’, thus wasting resources in strategically questionable areas. The British, despite being essentially unable to predict enemy intentions, did have the means, however imperfect, to respond quickly and effectively to each new strategic initiative rolled out by the Luftwaffe. The result of three years intensive research, in this book the author analyses the way in which both the British and German Intelligence services played a part in the Battle of Britain, thereby attempting to throw light on an aspect of the battle that has been hitherto underexposed to scrutiny.

lgli/Monelle, Raymond, - The Sense of Music (2000, Princeton University Press).fb2
The Sense of Music : Semiotic Essays Raymond Monelle; with a foreword by Robert Hatten Princeton University Press, November 15, 2000
Annotation. The fictional Dr. Strabismus sets out to write a new comprehensive theory of music. But music's tendency to deconstruct itself combined with the complexities of postmodernism doom him to failure. This is the parable that frames The Sense of Music, a novel treatment of music theory that reinterprets the modern history of Western music in the terms of semiotics. Based on the assumption that music cannot be described without reference to its meaning, Raymond Monelle proposes that works of the Western classical tradition be analyzed in terms of temporality, subjectivity, and topic theory. Critical of the abstract analysis of musical scores, Monelle argues that the score does not reveal music's sense. That sense--what a piece of music says and signifies--can be understood only with reference to history, culture, and the other arts. Thus, music is meaningful in that it signifies cultural temporalities and themes, from the traditional manly heroism of the hunt to military power to postmodern "polyvocality." This theoretical innovation allows Monelle to describe how the Classical style of the eighteenth century--which he reads as a balance of lyric and progressive time--gave way to the Romantic need for emotional realism. He argues that irony and ambiguity subsequently eroded the domination of personal emotion in Western music as well as literature, killing the composer's subjectivity with that of the author. This leaves Dr. Strabismus suffering from the postmodern condition, and Raymond Monelle with an exciting, controversial new approach to understanding music and its history

Architect of Evangelicalism: The Essential Essays of Carl F. H. Henry (Best of Christianity Today) Carl F. H. Henry, David S. Dockery Lexham Press, Best of Christianity Today, Bellingham, WA, 2019
Discover the ongoing relevance of the essential evangelical. In recent years, the label "evangelical" has been distorted and its usefulness questioned. No one is better equipped to provide a clear understanding of evangelicalism than the late Carl F. H. Henry, the founding editor of Christianity Today and the most influential theologian of American evangelicalism in the twentieth century. While Billy Graham was preaching the gospel to stadiums full of people, Henry was working tirelessly to help Christians adopt a worldview that encompasses all of life. Architect of Evangelicalism helps us gain a better sense of the roots of American evangelicalism by giving us the best of Henry's Christianity Today essays on subjects such as what defines evangelicalism, what separates it from theological liberalism, what evangelical Christian education should look like, and how evangelicals should engage with society.

From Serf to Russian Soldier (Princeton Legacy Library, 1076) Elise Kimerling Wirtschafter Princeton, N.J.: Princeton University Press, Princeton University Press, [N.p.], 2014
Here is the first social history devoted to the common soldier in the Russian army during the first half of the 19th-century--an examination of soldiers as a social class and the army as a social institution. By providing a comprehensive view of one of the most important groups in Russian society on the eve of the great reforms of the mid-1800s, Elise Wirtschafter contributes greatly to our understanding of Russia's complex social structure. Based on extensive research in previously unused Soviet archives, this work covers a wide array of topics relating to daily life in the army, including conscription, promotion and social mobility, family status, training, the regimental economy, military justice, and relations between soldiers and officers. The author emphasizes social relations and norms of behavior in the army, but she also addresses the larger issue of society's relationship to the autocracy, including the persistent tension between the tsarist state's need for military efficiency and its countervailing need to uphold the traditional norms of unlimited paternalistic authority. By examining military life in terms of its impact on soldiers, she analyzes two major concerns of tsarist social policy: how to mobilize society's resources to meet state needs and how to promote modernization (in this case military efficiency) without disturbing social arrangements founded on serfdom.Originally published in 1990.The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

**A collection of more than 100 extraordinary desserts—all with photos and meticulous instructions—by Cenk Sönmezsoy, creator of the internationally acclaimed blog Cafe Fernando.** Written, styled, photographed, and designed by Cenk Sönmezsoy, __The Artful Baker__ shares the inspiring story of a passionate home baker, beginning with his years after graduate school in San Francisco and showcasing the fruits of a baking obsession he cultivated after returning home to Istanbul. Sönmezsoy’s stories and uniquely styled images, together with his original creations and fresh take on traditional recipes, offer a thoughtful and emotional window into the life of this luminary artist. __The Artful Baker__ is comprised of almost entirely new content, with a few updated versions of readers’ favorites from his blog, such as Brownie Wears Lace, his signature brownies topped with blond chocolate ganache and bittersweet chocolate lace (originally commissioned by Dolce & Gabbana and awarded “Best Original Baking and Desserts Recipe” by Saveur magazine); Raspberry Jewel Pluot Galette, a recipe inspired by Chez Panisse’s 40th year anniversary celebrations; and Devil Wears Chocolate, his magnificent devil’s food cake that graces the cover of the book. Each chapter highlights a variety of indulgences, from cookies to cakes and tarts to ice creams, including recipes like Pistachio and Matcha Sablés; Tahini and Leblebi (double-roasted chickpeas) Swirl Brownies; Sakura Madeleines; Sourdough Simit, the beloved ring-shaped Turkish bread beaded with sesame seeds; Isabella Grape and Kefir Ice Cream; Pomegranate Jam; and Blanche, a berry tart named after the Golden Girl Blanche Devereaux. Every recipe in __The Artful Baker__ has gone through a meticulous development phase, tested by an army of home bakers having varying levels of skill, equipment, and access to ingredients, and revised to ensure that they will work flawlessly in any kitchen. Measurements of ingredients are provided in both volume and weight (grams). Where a volume measurement isn’t useful, weight measurements are provided in both ounces and grams.

Our Others : Stories of Ukrainian Diversity Olesya Yaremchuk; Marta Barnych; Zenia Tompkins; Hanna Leliv; Anton Semyzhenko; Ostap Slyvynsky Jessica Haunschild u. Christian Schön GbR. ibidem-Verlag, Ukrainian voices (Stuttgart, Germany), vol. 8, Stuttgart, 2020
Our Others: Stories of Ukrainian Diversity is an award-winning exploration of both the histories and personal stories of fourteen ethnic minority groups living within the boundaries of present-day Ukraine: Czechs and Slovaks, Meskhetian Turks, Swedes, Romanians, Hungarians, Roma, Jews, 'Liptaks', Gagauzes, Germans, Vlachs, Poles, Crimean Tatars, and Armenians. Based on a combination of academic research, fieldwork, and interviews, Olesya Yaremchuk's literary reportages paint realistic, thoughtful, and historically informed depictions of how these various groups arrived in Ukraine and how they have fared within the country's borders. Accompanied by vivid photographs that bring the reportages to life, Our Others is in some respects a chronicle of the myriad voluntary and forced migrations that have rolled through Ukraine for centuries. Simultaneously, the book offers a tender--and timely--study of the little islands of cultural diversity in Ukraine that have survived the Soviet steamroller of planned linguistic, cultural, and religious unification and that deserve acknowledgement in Ukraine's broader cultural identity. The volume's contributors are: Marta Barnych (contributing co-author), Anton Semyzhenko (contributing co-author), Ostap Slyvynsky (foreword)

Architect of Evangelicalism: Essential Essays of Carl F. H. Henry (Best of Christianity Today) Carl F. H. Henry, David S. Dockery Lexham Press, Bookwire GmbH, [N.p.], 2019
Architect of Evangelicalism helps us gain a better sense of the roots of American evangelicalism by giving us the best of Henry's Christianity Today essays on subjects such as what defines evangelicalism, what separates it from theological liberalism, what evangelical Christian education should look like, and how evangelicals should engage with society.

nexusstc/Globalization and women in academia: North West-South East/f0854a003b98426f083c8072991bb6c2.epub
Globalization and women in academia : north west-south east Carmen Luke Routledge, 1 edition, June 1, 2001
In this cross-cultural exploration of the comparative experiences of Asian and Western women in higher education management, leading feminist theorist Carmen Luke constructs a provocative framework that situates her own standpoint and experiences alongside those of Asian women she studied over a three-year period. She conveys some of the complexity of global sweeps and trends in education and feminist discourse as they intersect with local cultural variations but also dovetail into patterns of regional similarities. Western feminist research has established that relatively few women hold senior positions in universities and colleges. Using the now common metaphor of the "glass ceiling," this research has developed a range of social, cultural, and institutional explanations for women's underrepresentation in academic life. International studies show that women in non-Western countries are also underrepresented in higher education. Yet do Western explanations and strategies for change hold for academic women working in non-Western universities? The very diversity among women's experiences calls into question many of the analytic tools, terms, claims, and solutions formulated by Western feminism. This is the first study to show how cultural differences figure into the institutional dynamics of "glass ceilings." It raises important theoretical and practical, strategic, and tactical questions about issues of cultural difference and institutional power.

Studyguide for Core Economics by Stone, Gerald, ISBN 9780716799009 by Cram101 Textbook Reviews (2015-04-06) Paperback Gerald W. Stone Worth Publishers, 1st, 2007
What does CORE mean?CoreEconomics is based on an extensive survey conducted by the author, Gerald Stone. Professor Stone asked several hundred instructors which chapters of their principles books they actually cover in their courses. Two important points emerged:• One chapter/one week. Instructors typically cover one chapter per week, or 15 chapters in a 15-week semester.• The majority of instructors teach the same 2/3 of a standard economics textbook. The overwhelming majority of instructors covers the same chapters in the bulk of their course and then spend minimal time covering additional chapters. Over 90% of professors cover a maximum of 15 chapters in their microeconomics or macroeconomics text, which typically includes 19-22 chapters. Based on this he decided to write a textbook that covers the core topics of economics in the sequence they are most commonly taught. The result is CoreEconomics, a text that provides everything you need to cover in your course in one chapter per week at 2/3 the cost of the average principles of Economics text. In this sense, “core” does not mean brief or abridged. Rather, it means that the textbook contains the chapters that most instructors need, but very few additional chapters or special-interest topics, such as agricultural economics, urban economics, insurance, and risk. Because CoreEconomics focuses on the core principles, it includes very few boxes, sidebars, or additional features. Rather, examples are incorporated into the main narrative of each chapter. The result is a more satisfying reading and learning experience for the student.

nexusstc/The Role of Intelligence in the Battle of Britain/bdbadcd051bb7ebfd278c6740b9ed0fa.pdf
The Role of Intelligence in the Battle of Britain Norman Ridley Air World, Pen & Sword Books, 1, 2021
The Battle of Britain was fought between two airborne military elites and was a classic example of pure attack against pure defence. Though it was essentially a 'war of attrition', it was an engagement in which the gathering, assessment and reaction to intelligence played a significant role on both sides. In some respects, both the RAF and the Luftwaffe were hamstrung in their endeavours during the Battle of Britain by poor intelligence. The most egregious Luftwaffe blunder was its failure to appreciate the true nature of Fighter Command's operational systems and consequently it made fundamental strategic errors when evaluating its plans to degrade them. This was compounded by the Luftwaffe's Intelligence chief, Major Josef 'Beppo' Schmid, whose consistent underestimation of Fighter Command's capabilities had a huge negative impact upon Reichsmarschall Göring's decision-making at all stages of the conflict. Both the Luftwaffe and the RAF lacked detailed information about each other's war production capacity. It is clear that the Luftwaffe was unable to use intelligence as a 'force multiplier', by concentrating resources effectively, and actually fell into a negative spiral where poor intelligence acted as a 'force diluter', thus wasting resources in strategically questionable areas.

Road show : art cars and the museum of the streets by Eric Dregni & Ruthann Godollei Golden, Colo.: Speck Press, Golden, Colo, Colorado, 2009
<p>The automobile has long been a symbol of status, power, and autonomy, and ever since King Tut rolled through Egypt on his golden-wheeled chariot, artists and drivers have dreamed up mobile masterpieces. A striking photographic tribute and social history, <i>Road Show</i> navigates a path across high and low art, showing how people around the world are transforming their vehicles into stunning folk art, obsessive collections, social commentary, and visionary performances. In this fascinating showcase, we see how Henry Ford’s motto, “Any color as long as it’s black,” has been hung out to dry. From the Wienermobile to a hand-carved wooden Ferrari that drives in the canals of Venice to a giant red stiletto heel, <i>Road SHow</i> brings the “museum of the streets” to life.</p> <p><b>Eric Dregni</b> has written thirteen books, including <i>Follies of Science</i>, <i>Weird Minnesota</i>, <i>Midwest Marvels</i>, <i>The Scooter Bible</i>, <i>Ads That Put America on Wheels</i>, and <i>Let’s Go Bowling!</i> He lives in Minneapolis where he teaches Italian and creative writing and plays guitar in the mock-rock trio Vinnie &amp; the Stardüsters.</p> <p><b>Ruthann Godollei</b> is a professor of art at Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and her artwork has been exhibited internationally. She has participated in and organized art car events for over twenty years and drives a 1985 Volvo covered with thousands of printed green gears.</p>

Celia's Song Lee Maracle; OverDrive, Inc Cormorant Books Inc, 1st Edition, First Edition, FR, 2014
Mink is a witness, a shape shifter, compelled to follow the story that has ensnared Celia and her village, on the West coast of Vancouver Island in Nuu'Chahlnuth territory. Celia is a seer who — despite being convinced she's a little "off" — must heal her village with the assistance of her sister, her mother and father, and her nephews. While mink is visiting, a double-headed sea serpent falls off the house front during a fierce storm. The old snake, ostracized from the village decades earlier, has left his terrible influence on Amos, a residential school survivor. The occurrence signals the unfolding of an ordeal that pulls Celia out of her reveries and into the tragedy of her cousin's granddaughter. Each one of Celia's family becomes involved in creating a greater solution than merely attending to her cousin's granddaughter. Celia's Song relates one Nuu'Chahlnuth family's harrowing experiences over several generations, after the brutality, interference, and neglect resulting from contact with Europeans.

lgli/Monelle, Raymond, - The Sense of Music (2000, Princeton University Press).lit
Strabismus suffering from the postmodern condition, and Raymond Monelle with an exciting, controversial new approach to understanding music and its history

lgli/Monelle, Raymond, - The Sense of Music (2000, Princeton University Press).mobi

Celia's Song Maracle, Lee Cormorant Books Inc, 1st Edition, First Edition, FR, 2014
