Algunas ventajas tenemos, sin embargo, sobre los pensadores precibernéticos. ventajas que residen en el estado actual de la teoría y la práctica de la cibernética y la matemática, de sus estímulos y de sus miedos A partir de ciertas definiciones nuevas, insoslayables, puede argumentarse sobre la posibilidad de que una máquina llegue a traspasar una. predefinida, frontera del pensamiento. Ensayos sobre la inteligencia artificial, como el de J. R. Lucas, «Mentes,,máquinas y Gödel», y el de A. M. Turing, «Maquinaria computadora e inteligencia», recogidos en este libro, son ya piezas clásicas. Lucas se empeña en demostrar que una máquina jamás puede pensar, que no puede reducirse un cerebro a una estructura mecánica. Turing, por el contrario, intenta probar la hipótesis opuesta, desarmando todas las objeciones que acostumbran esgrimirse contra la capacidad de pensar de una máquina: objeciones teológicas, las llamadas del «avestruz» («¿máquinas que piensan?, ¡horror!»), las matemáticas, las objeciones sobre incapacidades varias (la de que una máquina sea chistosa, cariñosa, altruista, etc.), las objeciones sobre la analogía con el sistema nervioso humano, las de la percepción extrasensorial, y muchas más. En torno a estas dos posiciones se organizan las demás, matizadas aquí por otros científicos y pensadores como Hilary Putman y. sobre todo, Paul Ziff, del que reproducimos el brillante ensayo «El sentir de los robots», donde, a la pregunta convencional «¿Siente un robot?», afirma que no, porque, entre otras razones, «...desear el robot del prójimo sería como desear su coche y no a su mujer». No en vano este libro, Controversia sobre mentes y máquinas, fue concebido y editado por un doctor en Filosofía, profesor en la Universidad de Yale, Estados Unidos. Algunas ventajas tenemos, sin embargo, sobre los pensadores precibernéticos. ventajas que residen en el estado actual de la teoría y la práctica de la cibernética y la matemática, de sus estímulos y de sus miedos A partir de ciertas definiciones nuevas, insoslayables, puede argumentarse sobre la posibilidad de que una máquina llegue a traspasar una. predefinida, frontera del pensamiento. Ensayos sobre la inteligencia artificial, como el de J. R. Lucas, «Mentes,,máquinas y Gödel», y el de A. M. Turing, «Maquinaria computadora e inteligencia», recogidos en este libro, son ya piezas clásicas. Lucas se empeña en demostrar que una máquina jamás puede pensar, que no puede reducirse un cerebro a una estructura mecánica.
