Philippine Localities and Global Perspectives: Essays on Society and Culture deals with the main issues arising out of research on the Philippines in the past twenty years. Using local examples commonly preferred by anthropologists, it explores the links between the local community and the broader structures affecting it. Analyzing issues of national concern in the context of everyday life, the book shows the links between society and global forces. Finally, the book argues for conducting empirical research on the bases of a coherent theoretical perspective. The book is addressed to students and scholars interested in Philippine society or in Southeast Asia. It is of interest also to social scientists grappling with the major theoretical questions in sociology and anthropology.
