This does not exclude phosphofructokinase as a fine control and in fact you could see (fig. 2) that beyond the point of glyceraldehydephosphate it drops to below the 100 percent level, in other words there must be another control point. The situation is of course different in the adult tissue. There you can under anaerobic conditions by-pass the glucose-phosphorylating step by generating glucose-6-phosphate from glycogen, which actually takes place. Then the phosphofructokinase becomes rate limiting. That is something like a safety-device.
